Recognition is not fluency
Flashcards train you to recognize words on a screen. Real life asks you to produce sounds under mild pressure — ordering tea, greeting a coworker, answering “How was your weekend?” in Chinese. That muscle only grows when you speak out loud with feedback.
What changes in a live lesson
- A native teacher catches tone slips instantly — kindly, clearly
- You practice full sentences, not isolated words
- Cultural notes make phrases sound natural, not textbook-stiff
- You leave with 3–5 phrases you can use the same day
A simple weekly rhythm
Try this: one speaking lesson with Sisi + ten minutes of out-loud review on two other days. Keep flashcards as a side dish, not the main course. Adults in Minneapolis (and online) often notice a jump in confidence within a few weeks when speaking becomes the priority.
