Kids Mandarin lessons in Minneapolis

Licensed native teacher Siwen (Sisi) helps children build real Mandarin from the first lesson — tones, speaking, and vocabulary — through games, songs, and small groups capped at six students.

Why start Mandarin early

Children pick up tones and pronunciation more easily when they hear and speak Mandarin regularly with a patient native teacher. Early lessons focus on listening and speaking first, so kids gain confidence before heavy reading or writing.

Families in Minneapolis and across the Twin Cities often choose Sisi for after-school and weekend lessons that feel playful — without skipping structure. Parents receive weekly notes on what was covered and where their child is improving.

What kids learn in class

  • The four Mandarin tones, practiced out loud from day one
  • Everyday vocabulary through songs, games, and short conversations
  • Clear pronunciation habits before incorrect patterns stick
  • Gentle exposure to characters and pinyin as they are ready
  • Cultural context that makes the language feel alive

Small groups or private lessons

Small-group classes are $35/hour and capped at six students so every child gets real speaking time. Private 1-on-1 lessons are $50/hour for fully personalized pacing — useful for shy beginners, heritage speakers, or kids preparing for school Chinese programs.

Lessons are available in person at 3451 Bloomington Ave in Minneapolis, or online via Google Meet. Typical availability is weekday evenings after 3 PM and weekends.

YCT prep for younger learners

When a child is ready for an official milestone, Sisi also offers YCT exam preparation. YCT is designed for K–12 learners and focuses on everyday vocabulary before students move toward HSK later.
